The Community Legacy of the Vilcabamba 2026 Planetary Party

The Vilcabamba 2026 Bioregional Planetary Festival is a community gathering to celebrate the life of the valley, connect the people, projects, and resources that already exist here, and strengthen our capacity to work together for its future. The festival ensures this gathering translates into concrete actions of regeneration and care.
The Community Legacy
One of the core components of the festival is the Community Legacy, a regenerative action in favor of the community that begins well before the festival itself.
Two years ago, intense wildfires affected our valley and reminded us of its vulnerability. This year, conditions associated with the El Niño phenomenon further highlight the importance of being prepared and taking action in advance.
We are advancing the Community Legacy as a community workday initiative. Our aim is to organize, prevent, and strengthen the community’s capacity to care for the territory throughout the year. We are taking action now, ahead of any future emergencies.
During September and October 2026, we will carry out a community awareness and organizing campaign in collaboration with Germinación Colectiva, the Vilcabamba Fire Department, neighborhood leaders, and the Vilcabamba Citizens’ Assembly.
A Campaign to Bring the Community Together
The first step is creating an awareness and volunteer recruitment video, accompanied by a communication campaign to reach the different neighborhoods, communities, and groups of Vilcabamba. The Bioregion will support fundraising and coordination for the resources needed to make these workdays possible, including tools, transportation, water, and food.

Two Community Workdays to Prevent Wildfires
We will hold two community workdays to build firebreaks in two strategic areas of the valley:
Sunday, September 27: San Pedro
Saturday, October 3: Capamaco
These workdays are spaces for hands-on work, learning, and coming together. We want people to understand the territory better, recognize the importance of prevention, and actively participate in caring for it. To make the workdays effective, we aim to have 50 to 60 volunteers at each event.
A Community Network
We are using this initiative to build a community network of at least 200 people from different neighborhoods and sectors of Vilcabamba. This network will remain active throughout the year.
Through this network, Germinación Colectiva will organize monthly volunteer activities focused on:
Maintaining firebreaks.
Reforestation.
Restoring affected areas.
Wildfire prevention.
Other actions for the care and regeneration of the territory.
We are also establishing a long-term alliance with Vilcabamba taxi companies. They will receive advance notice of scheduled activities and support volunteer transportation through previously agreed-upon rates.
In this way, the September and October workdays will serve as the starting point for a network of organized people who can respond, collaborate, and care for the territory together year-round.

Our Goal
Our goal is to prioritize prevention over reaction and to build an organized community that actively cares for its home.
This is the legacy we bring to the Vilcabamba 2026 Bioregional Planetary Festival: celebrating our territory and demonstrating our collective capacity to care for it.
Key Dates
September 27: Firebreak construction workday in San Pedro.
October 3: Firebreak construction workday in Capamaco.
November 8: Presentation of the Community Legacy and invitation to join the community network during the Planetary Festival.
Starting in November: Monthly volunteer activities for maintenance, reforestation, and other regeneration actions throughout our valley.

How Can You Support?
To make these two workdays possible and build permanent community capacity for wildfire prevention, we are seeking support in the form of tools, transportation, food, water, and financial contributions.
1. Tools and Equipment
We need:
1 to 3 professional brushcutters (e.g., Husqvarna 545RX: ~USD 1,075 or Maruyama BCV5020: ~USD 1,059)
20 shovels
20 pairs of heavy-duty gardening gloves
20 machetes
These tools will become part of our community equipment, supporting future wildfire prevention, maintenance, and regeneration activities in the territory.
2. Volunteer Transportation
We are creating a fund to facilitate transportation for volunteers to San Pedro and Capamaco during the two workdays.
Estimated initial amount: USD 160–400, depending on transportation arrangements and contributions.
This fund will evolve into a community transportation resource to support future monthly activities, backed by our alliance with local taxi companies for special rates.
3. Food and Water
We expect approximately 50 to 60 volunteers at each workday. We are seeking support to provide:
Drinking water and hydration
Fruit
Chicha
A hearty meal for participants
